Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) and PSHE

At All Saints CE First School, we teach Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) through the 1decision Programme of Study.

The 1decision scheme provides a comprehensive, age-appropriate and carefully sequenced curriculum that fully meets statutory requirements for RSHE, while also delivering the wider PSHE curriculum. This ensures our teaching is consistent, progressive and aligned with national guidance, including the statutory expectations for Relationships Education and Health Education.

Our Approach

Using the 1decision programme, learning is organised around three core themes:

  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships
  • Living in the Wider World

Through this structure, pupils receive full coverage of statutory RSHE content, including:

  • Families and caring relationships
  • Friendships and respect
  • Boundaries and consent (in an age-appropriate way)
  • Online safety and digital relationships
  • Physical health and mental well-being
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Puberty and growing up
  • Keeping safe

The 1decision curriculum is designed as a spiral programme, meaning key themes such as safety, wellbeing, relationships and identity are revisited and developed in greater depth as children move from EYFS through to Key Stage 2. This allows pupils to build confidence, deepen understanding and apply their learning as they mature.

Developing Life Skills

Beyond statutory RSHE content, the 1decision PSHE scheme supports children to develop essential life skills, including:

  • Emotional literacy
  • Resilience and perseverance
  • Decision-making skills
  • Empathy and compassion
  • Responsibility and respect
  • Understanding their role in the wider world

Lessons provide clear, factual information in a safe and supportive environment. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, reflect thoughtfully and practise the skills they need to manage real-life situations confidently and safely.

Supporting Personal Development

By delivering RSHE through the 1decision PSHE programme, we ensure that learning is coherent, meaningful and firmly rooted in safeguarding and personal development. This approach supports our wider school vision by helping pupils grow into respectful, informed, and resilient individuals who are well-prepared for life in and beyond school.

If you would like further information about our RSHE and PSHE curriculum, please get in touch with the school office. We are always happy to talk through our approach with parents and carers.
